House of Gharats is very inspiring not only its success in the fashion industry by the determination but its an example.

I love the cultural heritage within the designs. It seems like the designs have very rich cultural roots, and also, perhaps, a mixture of the collected knowledge and imagery from around the world. Which makes the scarves bold imagery even more unique. Coming from a mixed cultural heritage myself, I personally always seem to be drawn to this kind of art.
The other aspect of the website I like is related to the design of the scarves. I do a lot of colour studies for my work. I enjoy colourful art and find inspiration in other peoples colourful works.
Lastly I love the sustainability focus coming through your blog.

One of my favourite things about the website is the Blue Fashion Scarf Collection. I love how it uses sustainable seaweed silk to make the product more authentic as well as being a more meaningful piece of fashion. I also love how the company is linked to the Commonwealth Fashion Council. I think this gives all the products an amazing diversity bringing in all sorts cultural inspirations. Finally, I think the blog is a fantastic addition, expanding on the issues mentioned elsewhere on the website. I really enjoyed the article about art and design being used to rethink our relationship with the ocean during the London Fashion Week.

1) What I adore about the website is its simplicity. The website presenting original and unique designs of beautiful scarfs need a clear and consistent template followed throughout the page. That is why, the viewer focuses on what is important and pleasing. By contrasting technically basic page -with black and white colours- with perfectly balanced pictures of mesmerizing scarfs, the webpage allows to feel almost like a designer and fine art connoisseur.
2) Furthermore, by adding photos before and during the process of designing/making the scarfs, the viewer/buyer feels as each scarf was made with passion. This page shows clearly, that each client would receive carefully made luxurious product.
3) Each collection displayed on the website has a hidden meaning and message behind its creation. Each scarf is a form of artistic vision. It is up to us how each of us would read the message behind it. The page introduces us to follow the production artistry, which is undoubtedly magical.

Why house of Gharats?
1. House of Gharats has at heart sustainability as much as style. In the period we live in today is crucial to take into consideration the impact that fashion can have on the environment, and on people in a long term.
2. I am impressed by the fact that the Founder-Designer Neishaa Gharat has the mission to change the world through the creation of scarves. Since I was a teenager I have always considered scarves as an accessory that represents who wears them. As well as this, I appreciate that the production of these scarves aims not only to empower women and girls, but also is focused to support people around the world.
3. I am a fan of family business too. Nowadays, I believe we should attribute the proper value to the work of artisans and small businesses. They have high attention to detail and to customers, and when you buy an item from them, you are acknowledging their hard work.

I am astonished by House Of Gharats artful ability to synthesise complex elements of heritage and modernity, to break away from what is to be expected yet it’s roots are deeply considered.
I particularly admire the company’s core values towards responsible and sustainable practices within the luxury sector. I believe a sustainable perspective proves to be the most post-modern, especially the practice of passing down through generations.
On the same note, the leading conversation and attention towards Ocean Conservation are commendable. The use of installation provides a dynamic and interactive attractiveness to communicate a vital topic visually.

The website in particular is really presented in the way that I would like to buy, information and imagery first- showing that the act of purchasing an item from here is not just purchasing, it is also supporting artists and designers, understanding the thought behind it, and supporting good causes.
The whole feeling of the website and overall brand is that of luxury, yet also environmentally conscious. This seems to be a contradiction- a break of the ‘eco friendly is just for xxxx’ stereotype- and I love the fact that people from both sides of the sustainability scale can enjoy these products; whether it be for the fact that the company is aware, or just the amazing artwork and quality.
The diversity of the designs- something to appeal to literally everyone. This is an amazing positive to have, as not as many brands are as versatile. Scarves are one size fits all to begin with; so why narrow it down to a colour palette or a theme? The just huge range meant that I clicked on several pages and felt compelled to buy; so allows people to come back and purchase another item without feeling like they have already bought something similar as it is from the same shop.

There are a lot of things I have found on the website that mean something to me:
1. after looking on the website it is clear to me that you strongly support environmental issues which is something close to my heart.
2. You also focus on empowerment and culture which I feel is often lost in other brands and needs to be discussed.
3. I also love how the website is so open and really allows us the viewer to get to know the brand and the people behind it, this website makes you feel part of something.

3 things on the website that mean something to me are;
1) Environmental consciousness: I truly believe that fashion and textiles is such an accessible tool for evoking both political and social change, this is actually the topic of my dissertation and a cause I believe in strongly, therefore the fact that the House of Gharats ethos is so environmentally and socially conscious is in keeping with a cause I am incredibly passionate about. The Commonwealth Fashion council x House of Gharats collection is a collection that both inspires me artistically and ethically. I would absolutely relish the opportunity to work with a brand whos’ work provides solutions to real world problems in such an accessible way. Working in the textiles industry is something that has pulled me back and forth as I love designing textiles and working with fabrics but I am so conscious of the detrimental effects the textiles industry has on the environment, so to see a brand that has flipped this issue on its’ head to not only use the prints themselves as a tool to raise awareness but has also used an environmentally friendly fabric that supports the cause has given me hope and shown that it is possible to create an eco-friendly textiles industry.
There are so many brands that claim to be environmentally conscious and sustainable, but rarely follow through with the bold claims they are making. To collaborate with an organisation such as the Commonwealth Fashion council and the Blue Charter Initiative is evidence of your brand’s commitment to actually making a difference and this is something I was immediately drawn to when scrolling through your website.
2) Not just an online shop: I love how the website is not just used as a tool to sell product; it is also used as a platform to educate its’ visitors. I was taken by the blog on the website about #WomenInAquaculture. I will always support any brand that works towards female empowerment, but I found it especially interesting to read about the role women play in the seaweed farming industry, as I didn’t know a thing about the industry, let alone the role women played in it. The fight for equality has always been a topic of interest to me as I can’t quite fathom why we as a society even need to fight for it as I believe it should be a given, no human is better than another, and so reading about the fight the women in aquaculture go through to even just gain notoriety for their work is fascinating to me. It was so interesting and heart-warming to read about how the social norms in Zanzibar are changing due to the seaweed farming industry, and how the ‘gender balance is shifting’. I love how the House of Gharats brand clearly seeks to not only make informed and conscious decisions about the impact it has on the world and environment, but also seeks to educate its’ customers and those even just visiting the website.
3) Design aesthetic: I have followed House of Gharats for a few years now and I have always been drawn to the incredible illustrative prints and the use of colour. As a designer I love to use bold, fun colours in my work so this immediately caught my eye. The combination of traditional illustration style, with contemporary and modern inspirations result in these timeless designs that draw the viewer in and open a dialogue between the designer and the consumer and encourages the consumer to learn about the origin of the design.

fsahion is something so personal yet open for transfromation, we grow and change and our clothes are the ones who allow us to revisit that moment.

What this brand represents, is simple beauty, Not only, the product itself, which are unique silk scarfs. The website represents values from the soul.
CHANGE THE WORLD ONE SCARF AT A TIME
– The world is sick.
Agonizes, he can no longer breathe,
Rapidly is turning grey. But not all care
Let’s do something to save our planet!
Before the system dies,
Let’s get to work,
let’s look for a recipe together
for our planet to care for.
– Inspirational: Art as a tool for Ocean Conservation. Determination and collaboration resourced by House of Gharats to encourage people to make a significant change.
– Regarding the visual aspect of the website and not the content on itself. The visual guideline is minimalistic, sutil and the color scheme is represented with vivid colors. That automatically transmit a positive effect and curiosity to research and invest time in looking at what the brand has to offer to the public.

What are your 3 key internship objectives?
Learn, grow and get experience.
Why House of Gharats, point 3 things on the website that mean something to you?
– The first thing that made me apply for the internship is that it is a female owned and created business. I truly admire women who have created their own business’s and brands, and it would be a privilege to be able to work for you.
– The second thing is the designs. How you are using your cultural inheritance and infusing it into contemporary western fashion.
– Thirdly I was impressed by the diversity with the models used. I am a true believer in that gender, skin colour, sexual identity, race and so on should have any say on your ability to do the job.

These three elements are why I am drawn to House Of Gharats
1. firstly, like mine your values include ‘style, substance and sustainability’ I know that is an extremely important promise to make and immediately sets the tone for the whole brand.
2. Secondly, I like how active and visual the website is with illustration and GIF tutorials, it is important to have an interactive connection with the customers.
3. lastly, I admire your designs mostly because of the storytelling aspect and the inclusion of proud heritage and culture. I think that identity is the most important source for design and it is shown throughout the website and products.

The future of fashion is whatever we want it to be.
The future of retail sustainable, the fashion industry is pushing for better and someday we will get there and make our mark as creatives.
Style from my point of view means being who I want to be and using fashion to project this.
