I love House of Gharats’ investment in a more sustainable future for fashion. It is wonderful to continue pushing for creativity while allowing future generations to pursue they’re own creative paths. Your scarves add a beautiful pop of colour to any outfit and for any occasion. Scarves are a timeless accessory.

What really touched me about the website is the fact that it prioritizes sustainability and under-developed countries, as for example Indian textiles, other than just promoting its products. Secondly the cooperation and interconnection between different cultures that meet in one piece of clothing is really fascinating and proves that there are no cultural or geographical barriers within House of Gharats. Lastly, other than efficiently promoting their beliefs and concepts of fashion to the public, the brand really stays connected with its customers by giving them the possibility to subscribe and text via messenger.

My 3 technical / software skills:

The future of fashion is sustainable thinking. It is extremely important that brands engage a sustainable approach in their vision and mission statement in order to reduce and recycle materials

The future of retail is about convenience and connection to customers. it is also the one of creating personalized products sold online.

Style from my point of view means expressing one selves through fashion and creating unique and personal outfits even with basic-designs pieces of clothing.

I was interested in the ‘About’ section to read how House of Gharats ‘endeavours to bring together different cultures’ and ‘redefine cultural relationships’. I have always been interested in the interaction between various cultures and reflected upon the subtleties within society surrounding culture, class, age and gender. The way House of Gharats are able to create challenging collections of aesthetic beauty that convey a meaningful narrative and deeper message struck me. Exploring cultural juxtapositions, I love the way collections transcend the superficial with a hybrid of cultural influences, both contemporary and historic. I felt this was evident within collections such as ‘Royal Hoof! Queen’s Horses’, exploring all that is stereo-typically British, yet influenced by the rich prints, vivid colours of India and shared history and heritage of India and Britain.

I was particularly struck by how the developmental design process is documented, incorporated and showcased as a large part of the website, revealing the influences and process behind each collection. This was meaningful to me, as I feel the inspiration and creative process that is translated into a final outcome is of great value. It is interesting to be able to see this journey visually on the website.

I was interested in the blog page exploring how we are experiencing a change in our material culture and how our fashion and lifestyle choices have a huge environmental effect. This was meaningful to me, linking well to my current project where I have been creating a dress entirely from tracing paper, accumulated scraps of different textured fabrics and recyclable materials. I am interested in how materials can be rediscovered, adopting a new purpose, value and function. I felt there was a delicate beauty attached to the fragility and transparency of using layered paper when manipulated and embellished, becoming an art form in itself.  I was interested to read about other environmental and more ethical alternatives to popular fabrics such as nylon in the fashion industry, including Bionic and Econyl.

Why House of Gharats? Point out three things that mean something to you.

The timeless prints created throughout all of the stunning silk scarf collections are something to be held and passed down through the family for generations. I love the concept of a design being created so timeless it can be passed through a family like an heirloom. Making designs connect with people and their lives is a rewarding part of design and I can see House of Gharats must create this for many people.

The personal touch throughout all of the collections brings a sense of origonality and creativeness. It adds a special flare to the company and makes it stand out from any other in the industry currently. I love the use of exploration in the House of Gharats designs, both through digital pathways and other crafts.

House of Gharats and the ethics they stand by are a huge step for the textiles and design industry. Introducing sea materials to your collections in order to make fashion “ocean friendly” and being sustainably conscious is not only innovative but also a way to make the company more fashion forward.

    – Because sustainable textiles are necessary, but to become a substitute to traditional fashion, it has to be attracting, which succeed to do House of Gharat.
    – Because the house gives finally a solution to the increase of seaweed growing, its pollution.
    – Because they incarnate values I believe in: mixing heritage, high quality, and sustainability in the respect of the human kind.

The company is professional, the way you run the application of the internship program and the structure of the web store shows the seriousness and dedication of the company.

I find the product and message of company inspirational; it shows a unique story in each product that I can work with.

The company is unique, I could notice just by looking at the home page. I can really see that you know what makes you stand out and transmit it to the public which shows that I’ll learn a lot from your company.

Things that attract me about the website
    1. I like the clarity that the websites displays in terms of it’s purpose and motive. There is no room for confusion for anyone who visits the website even for a second.
    2. The limited products and the intricacy shown on the scarves give a clear impression of exclusivity and quality. To show how to design a scarf in different ways is an interesting and conscious approach for the convenience of customers as well as leading them towards a more sustainable way to use a product.
    3. I love the amalgamation of culture through combining different patterns and colours in an aesthetically pleasing manner. I like the bold yet humble approach of the designer who created this company for with an intention of impact.

House of Gharats embrace many cultures and this is evident from looking at any given design. Below highlights 3 things from the website that mean something to me:

    • When I first looked at the website, I noticed how culture is translated through design. The uniqueness and quality, attention to detail and vibrancy of colour caught my eye.
    • I’ve always been passionate about sustainability, the forever increasing negative impact of society on the environment is clear and something I’d love to contribute to doing something about.
    • As you’ll notice from my CV I’ve done charity work in the past and working for an organisation that supports good causes appeals to me.

Three elements of this brand that mean a lot to me are:
one being your consciousness to the planet. All your prints, particularly the “blue fashion sustainable scarf collection”, have underlying themes that show the environment being a beautiful source of inspiration and this creates a great mode of activism that helps the planet. I also love how you beautifully merge tradition with modern style and create your own unique selling point. Finally, I just love the colours in every product, each palette looks so carefully selected and always shows how exciting colour is to work with.

The first point on the website that strikes me is the Fabric of the Commonwealth initiative. I believe that listening to other cultures and what they have to offer can only enrich our own designs and I would love to learn more about this project. The second idea that excites me is the collaboration with Blue Fashion. I have enjoyed studying and testing fibres in the lab during my degree course and it is wonderful to see new and sustainable fibres in a product. I also appreciate that the drawing behind many o f the designs are included, drawing is where all my own designs begin and its really fun to see how they develop onto the final scarf.

The future of fashion is focused on crafts and reflecting on heritage. We need to look outwards and think about re-imagining the stories that inspired us in the past. I believe that mass production is starting to show its many flaws ans we will move towards crafts once again.

The future of retail is slow fashion and quality products that stand the test of time. Minimalism and capsule wardrobes are only growing as cultural concepts. Retail needs to be focused on products that strike you and make a lasting connection with the consumer.

Style from my point of view means mixing old and new. Take something iconic like a silk scarf and make it work for you, wearing it however it works for you. I love to layer things, take summer clothes into my winter wardrobe, use necklaces as bracelets and jumpers as dresses. It is all about how you wear it and textiles have so much potential.

    1. Culture – I think it is so amazing that House of Gharats is so reflective of different cultures. It will educate customers on this topic in a way that they might not have thought possible – through an item of clothing that they love. These beautiful scarves could mean so much to customers due to the representation of cultures and cultural influencers that are lovingly and respectfully thought about when making the product.

    2. Beautiful prints – I was first drawn to House of Gharats due to to the stunning prints that are created for the scarves. They are intricate, beautiful, bold, colourful, vibrant, interesting and brave. These are the kind of prints I’d love to create one day as they have so much meaning and impact for the product and on the consumer. You are telling a story through the prints.

    3. Tradition/craftsmanship – This element of your work was also something that I found extremely inspiring and admirable. I have not come across this level of tradition and craftsmanship within the fashion industry so far and I was blown away by the methods and processes you take to maintain the heritage of these crafts. Keeping these traditions alive, you are building more of a story into these scarves and they become so much more meaningful for the customer.
