1. Firstly, I really admire the fact that sustainability is one of the aims for House Of Gharats. Yes, the print and colour is important, but making it sustainable just makes the pieces more significant and possibly makes the customer/ wearer feel more comfortable knowing that the environment has not been compromised. I myself, always think of ways to be sustainable and ethical in my own practice. So seeing that this company does the same thing makes me feel positive that the environment is being taken into consideration rather than it just focusing on the designs. “There is no beauty in the finest cloth if it makes hunger and unhappiness.” Mahatma Gandhi. I completely agree with the quote, the cloth can be so beautiful designed, but if it has caused harm or been produced in an unethical manner then it makes the pieces seem pointless.
2. Secondly, the fact that a women is a founder of this makes me feel very confident and proud. Being from the same culture myself makes me feel happy to see prints that come from our history being transformed into beautiful intricate scarves that can be worn on the body for everyone to see. I can feel a sense of power and strength through the designs which indicates that Ms Neishaa is proud of where she comes from and wants to appreciate her culture for what it is.
3. Lastly, the use of bold colours and print really caught my attention. They have been manipulated as the prints that are culturally historic have been transformed into modern designs. Seeing this transformation is beautiful because if these scarves were to be compared to the old historic designs then there is a huge difference. Seeing how it has evolved is interesting. It shows the journey and how the use of bold designs and colour have become more fashionable and dominant. I like that there are meanings behind the designs and there is a sense of symbolism that all people can interpret in their own ways.

The “An Artful life” page because it explains the concept of House Of Gharats, and permits a better understanding of the company’s philosophy.
« Million wishes for the ocean » because it shows that House Of Gharats is a committed start up for its planet. It cares about the environment in which it evolves. Being invested, it wants to involve its community notably through “During London Fashion Week in September”, House of Gharats set up a Wishing Net at Super Super Super Super event where lots of people took part by casting their wish to our oceans.
I also really like the Blue Fashion X Commonwealth Fashion page. I love the drawings that are present on the page, but also very much the fact that this page is about the Commonwealth. The Commonwealth represents so many different cultures brought together.

Through comprehensive research I have realised that the most valuable aspects of the company that caught my attention are related to its sustainability. “There is no beauty in the finest cloth if it makes hunger and unhappiness.” The company is purely upholds the meaning of these words being environmentally friendly and following slow fashion idea. Activity of House of Gharats proves that people can wear fashionable clothes being sustainably efficient at the same time.
Secondly, I am highly attracted to the cultural aspect which is interspersed in the company’s projects. “Cultural differences should not separate us from each other, but rather cultural diversity brings collective power that can benefit all of humanity.”- Robert Alan. The company shows how relevant are synergies between cultures, combining them together in order to create timeless pieces of garment.
Finally, the projects are very unconventional. Wearing them we could express ourselves which is essential in daily life. As we totally vary from each other, which it unquestionably beautiful, everyone is able to find something suitable for themselves.

I choose to apply to House of Gharats for an internship because of the values you have as a fashion house. In today’s economy it is important to have conscious slow fashion movements to help our planet.
Secondly I love the combination of cultural aspects and the unique, artful designs that your house represents. The designs speak to me with their story behind every pattern and their brilliant colourful designs.
The last reason is the craftsmanship you put into creating each product.

First I appreciate your vision of Fashion as “one of the most important mediums to express one’s individuality”. I agree with you, for me, fashion is a language, it is a way to express ourselves and show who we are to others. As Art itself, it is a beautiful way to give value to what we believe in.
Secondly I love the fact that Your brand has a sustainable approach. As someone who is aware of the impact of fashion , I am always happy to see a brand arises awareness among people to save the planet and protect it for future generations to come.
Also I found it interesting to learn about new fibers such as sea cell fabric being used in your production process and how sustainability is a core issue to the brand.
To finish, I love the open minded approach in creating: having a cultural approach is admirable and I appreciate it. Your scarves are really beautiful

I felt immediately drawn to the uniquely beautiful silk scarves by House of Gharat. I came across the company in my search for an internship as I approach my final year of studies as an undergraduate art student where my studio practice for coursework has been textile-heavy and I have come to realise that this is an area I am keen to pursue a career in. It also really stood out to me that the scarves are produced ethically and sustainably. The postmodern fashion industry is dominated by mass production to fit the trends of fast fashion, which is not only killing the environment but in most cases is also exploitative to workers. It is refreshing to see a luxury design label which is standing up for the environment, workers rights and minority groups.

Firstly, I’ve really appreciated the unique univers through different collections and especially the mix among several cultures.
Secondly, I think that design is a super power too. Indeed, spread a word is ever more impacting when the manner is here.
Thirdly, maybe the most important thing, is the powerful message of the House of Gharats story. Conviction, hope, future, every thing on a scarf. It is not just a scarf is a symbol.

What are your three internship objectives?
My three main objectives I’d wish to achieve throughout an internship role is to gain insight into the production of textile products at industry standard, to gain knowledge of the creative process of luxury womenswear and also work closely with industry professionals to help improve my future design processes.
Three elements from the house of Gharats website that means something to me:
Throughout my education at Leeds, it has become evident to me the issues of sustainability in the design industry, the industry is one of the biggest pollutants, not far behind the oil industry. The Blue Fashion sustainable scarf collection notices this issue, merging the brand’s luxury silk scarfs with sustainability throughout the beautifully depicted marine-life motifs. I appreciate how the collection did not simply rely on the design elements, yet introducing SeaCell in the spinning production with silk. This created a fabric that is biodegradable with a life cycle of full carbon neutrality. Ultimately, I respect House of Gharats for recognising the punitive costs of the design industry to our oceans. This raises awareness to consumers by their collaboration with the Commonwealth Fashion Council.
Alongside the brand’s ode to sustainability, the fact that the silk scarfs are all ethically sourced and produced resonates with me. Most luxury fashion and textile organisations
embody an ethic for unsustainability, manufacturing unethically sourced garments/ textiles, which is known to exploit both manual and child labor. I appreciate how the brand employ both elements of ethical and sustainable textiles and is not as economically driven.
Lastly, I couldn’t not state how the design elements of the brand really means something to me. Each scarf represents exuberant colour imagery, reminiscent of contrasting cultures, making each collection more personal.

The future of fashion is to produce reasonably and some timless and unique products.
The future of retail is changing for an omni-channel experience, the customer is the heart of the process and the new company have to be adaptable and noticeable.
Style from my point of view means the freedom to be yourself

What is special about HOUSE OF GHARATS is its mixture of traditions and delicacy on every piece of fabric, the amount of significance and purpose that each product carries and passion behind design thinking that drives to bring about creative and useful items to deliver change to our lives.

House of Gharats because it is a constant renewal of ideas, a perpetual challenge, with a wide choice of collections.
Because they are meticulous, original and daring products.
Because it is the passion, the transmission of knowledge, a fight, convictions and formidable values.
Zélie Vandermeiren
The House of Gharats belief’s on sustainability « As sustainable As Possible, As Soon As Possible «
The fact that luxury can be sustainable, and the two of them can coexist.
The art behind each scarfs, that is unique and a true piece of art.

The three things on the website that struck me:
1. The company shares your name. You take ownership and pride in what you produce. Your work is therefore a reflection of and an extension of you. I respect this approach.
2. Your willingness to experiment with materials and bold colors. This is most noted in the Seacell campaign. You are informed by breakthroughs in fabric technologies, and your color palette is very expressive. Both bold, both admirable.
3. Your commitment to the human at each stage. The description above makes note of how at each phase in the production of these scarves human craft meets human need and stewardship. This demonstrates an awareness backed by action in your chosen niche.

The future of fashion is bold, expressive color and unique texture, always in the context of personal staples. Trends will always persist because we’re human, but it seems everyone is actively pushing their own envelope. So to keep up, each piece must have the quality to withstand the time and reduce our consumption, while giving space for personal interpretation through bold color choices or interesting visual or tactile textures – things we can talk to each other about and help craft our personal image.
The future of retail is a blend of digital and storefront or irl experiences. The digital must become more human, like the irl experience but better, For example, brands who create garments and give the fewer options to see models wearing the garment in a range of skin tones, body shapes, etc. Storefront experiences must evolve to stay relevant. These will include changing the interiors to create an atmosphere, a space people want to enter as much for the ambiance and the look as for the clothes, like the Starbucks model. It could include creating mirrors that allow you to virtually try on clothes, customizing stations that can ship directly to you, reorganization of hangers to create sections around the store where the colors are so bold and the fabrics so intriguing you can’t help but want to touch them.
Style from my point of view means personal dress with the goal of feeling most comfortably you, so that you always feel your best. It can be focused purely on your physical comfort, focusing on what is most flattering for you, or focusing on the colors or patterns that speak to you. It’s an expression of self, but it’s most importantly about you.
