Three things that mean something to me from the House of Gharats website:

    1. Colour. The colours and textures immediately make me feel something when I open this website. Welcoming, warm and inviting.

    2. Ethos. The ethos of the brand is so significant and relevant today, it is something that I as a young creative I can really relate to, the NEED to make change and focus our energy to design for good and use fashion as power.

    3. Product originality. The idea of ‘fifty knotty ways to wear a scarf’ is something we all need. We all see different ways to wear and style dresses and jackets etc, but taking a staple accessory and using it to create multiple different looks is how we are going to show consumers that one scarf doesn’t mean one outfit. Encouraging rewearing garments and being creative with it is the future of sustainability.

Why House of Gharats, point 3 things on the website that mean something to you.

    – I admire the strong ethos of the brand, especially the important concepts of traditional craftsmanship, culture of craft and working sustainability within creative practice. This is very important within my own practices, as I believe working carefully with beautiful design produces desirable products that last.

    – The importance of good design with quality, and simple not designing for the sake of designing. I value time spent weaving together thoughtful narratives within design work through imagery, applications, colours and concepts.

    – The tradition and culture that the work House of Gharats produces is inspiring and playful, and this brand identity stands out and is recognizable. I love the hand rendered quality to the design work, very luxurious and iconic.

    1. The creativity of each design and how each individual print is a work of art. I love the photographs on the about us page showing the creation of the ideas and prints, I think that’s something that more brands should do and it really intrigued me when I first saw the website.

    2. How the website is clear, clean and accessible. I find that when a website is confusing to use and dull it can put me off from looking through but with this website the bold colours and organised areas attract my creative eye.

    3. The passion and commitment for sustainability which I feel strongly about and is so important in the current global situation.

What are your 3 key internship objectives ?

My main goal regarding the internship is reaching a professional level as a Graphic Designer and learning from the best. My first goal is crucial to me, since I have studied architecture that is not directly connected to graphic design. Apart from that, my second objective is to enter in an amazing way in the world of fashion. Fashion is really important and inspiring for me, and has always been a source of creativity for my brand, Minearc Illustrations. Last but not least, taking into consideration my international profile, through this internship, I intend to get to know a different market-culture and benefit from this experience.

Why House of Gharats, point 3 things on the website that mean something to you ?

The first thing I love about the website is the way of presenting the products not just as merchandise, but as a creative process and artistic concept. The narration of the website makes it really appealing to me. Besides that, the second strong point about the website is the fact that through the Blog and the Collective it is easy to get to know the brand better and understand the way it works. Finally, as a graphic designer I really enjoy the collections. They are based on different artistic references that capture the eye in the best way.

I have to say that I absolutely LOVE the playfulness of little tigers with heels, that is so cute. It reminds me of Rajput paintings and the whole romantic aspect of it and I adore how it’s connected in a cultural aspect but it’s also modern and with taste and doesn’t look tacky. I also like how it’s following a tradition and being sustainable at the same time.

The future of retail is to embrace the move to e-commerce as consumers move to online shopping and thus we will need to embrace new technology that comes with this  . Retail will need to move towards eco sustainable brands  contributing to reducing the climate change footprint and working towards social responsibility to protect the lives of those involved in the manufacture of the goods. We must look at the conservation of the planet.  The future is exciting with retail needing to embrace new changes in our lifestyle and address the needs for what consumers are looking for today.

Style from my point of View For me style is expression of my creativity by being original, creative and creating a brand that is distinctive yet addresses a need for a demand in the market today .  It also  is a distinctive appearance from the way a fabric or garment has been designed.

I am very impressed by the fact that the house of Gharats makes wonderful collections of both heritage and modern scarves and that they create the highest quality of fabrics at the same time as embracing sustainability.  As a lover and our world oceans and personally inspired by the ocean in my work I particularly like the fact that they are involved in several projects that create sustainability of the oceans such as by the Blue Charter initiative which creates awareness for the plastic pollution crisis in our oceans.  I also like the focus on heritage and craftsmanship skills drawn from the traditions of textile manufacture and design from cultures all over the world. It strikes me they are committed to making beautiful and inspiring scarves that give absolute pleasure to the customer.

This is one of the most beautiful ways that I’ve ever seen to preserve and exalt cultural traditions. This demonstrates that fashion is much more than consumerism and status. It is a powerful tool for self-knowledge and recognition of real values.

I am fascinated by cultural contrasts, and how people are made up of a combined repertoire of experiences, beliefs, and habits. Each person is a unique result of the facts of his/her life sequence, and that delights me.
I found my life purpose when I started looking for ways to really translate and exalt these infinite differences (using arts, textiles and style).

Even from so far (from Brazil !!!!), ), I have found that I am on the right track, that there are people out there in the world that are making this common purpose real (in beautiful ways, as the House of Gharats does).

“The objects that we choose to surround ourselves with, tend to be those with the strongest and deepest connections to our past, present, and future. ”
That, for me, is the real purpose of fashion.

THE BEST THING IN THE WEBSITE THAT ATTRACTED ME THE MOST IS THEIR CONNECTION WITH THE ROOT AND CULTURE OF INDIA.
THE INDIAN ART AND DESIGNS WITH THE MODERNITY OF WESTERN AND OTHER FUSION IS WHAT DESIGNER HOUSES SHOULD FOCUS ON.ALSO, SUSTAINABILITY HAS PLAYED THE MOST IMPORTANT ROLE HERE AT HOUSE OF GHARATS. IT CLEARLY MEANS THAT WE SHOULD ALWAYS PRAISE AND LOVE DIFFERENT CULTURES AND ETHNICITIES. THE WORLD IS FULL OF BEAUTIFUL AMAZING PEOPLE AND THEIR CULTURE. CREATING DESIGNS BASED ON THESE FACTORS IS TOTALLY A WINNING THING…

The brand philosophy, that is using design as the key to spreading awareness. I believe in not only making wearable designs but also have a deep meaning. This philosophy of the brand has already made a connection with me.
Sustainable fashion is the need of the hour, we have misused enough of mother Earth’s resources and it’s the time we start being conscious about our further steps. House of Gharats is a sustainable brand that means everything to me.
Prioritizing Indian culture and the use of vivid and vibrant colors.

I really admire the fact that you unapologetically inculcate your cultural heritage through your design work and particularly your prints. I think it is is especially important that when you are of a minority background, you should be proud of combining personal identity with creativity; and coming from an African background who is a textile print student, it is definitely something that I aspire to do.

Looking at the ‘Silk Scarf : Pata Pallette Silk’ collection, the vibrancy of colour and placement is very beautiful. And for me personally, I love the fact that it is a piece of hand-rendered artwork/ illustration rather than necessarily stitched into; it works well with the chosen fabric.

All in all, House of Gharats is fantastic and I am glad that sustainability and how the textile industry will affect future generations as the fashion industry is one of the most wasteful.
