How do we gift love?

How do we select love from a shelf and pay for it with a plastic card? Do we put it in a box and gift wrap it? Should we buy and give love to display all of our passion for just one day?
As a society, we are trying to gain back our grasp on what is real in life. While technology pressures us to impress on social media, we start to lose the fabric to celebrations like Valentine’s Day. It can feel like we’re being pressured to put on a show rather than enjoy the moment.
The world is home to 7.7 billion possibilities of love; billions of possibilities to share compassion. Valentine’s Day remains to serve as the opportunity to celebrate all of that love. To add to the celebrations, unofficial ‘Galentine’s Day’ sparked a whole new day for girls and women to celebrate themselves. It became a social media-sensation for females to show their love for friendships, their gender, their history and their future. Whether or not it’s on our calendars, it is another opportunity to show love.

We gift Love Every Day

We unconsciously gift our love every day; Make our loved one’s breakfast and iron their shirts, show our love when we say “be careful” or “get home safe”. Our love for the world has us supporting strangers, fighting for equal rights and a world that accommodates everyone. But we don’t consider these small, subtle displays of love as ‘gifts’ because they’re a part of our daily routine. They’re gifts given naturally and received naturally. They’re simple and small, they don’t cost or come wrapped in a bow and they’re given every day. It’s natural to hear “how did you sleep?” without regarding it as a big display of affection. But in reality, this everyday care shows us the gift of love.

Why are Galentine’s day and Valentine’s day still so Loveable?

It reminds us to celebrate the love that we have built over the past year. Behind the decorations and boxes of chocolate, Valentine’s and Galentine’s Day are days dedicated to the love we share. They give us an excuse to embrace love in the same way we celebrate Christmas. Gifting is an ancient tradition to reaffirm a good relationship, so it seems even more fitting for celebrations of love.
