An Artful Life
House Of Gharats is a design house creating conscious luxury for artful dressing and living. The old and new play off one another in perfect harmony. There is an undeniable appreciation for tradition and the antiquated, but also so much creative progression – and a love for beauty.
Founders
Neishaa & Pretam Gharat, founders of House of Gharats, endeavour to bring together various cultures, redefine cultural relationships, and create new style synergies through art and fashion. Living amidst London’s international hybrid city of cultures and its influential past results in objects that are profoundly modern, distinctively stylish, yet inherently classic.
Culture Of Craft
We are passionate about heritage arts and crafts, engaging with the makers and the process. Therefore our designs draw on the essence of tradition, cultural juxtapositions, stories, materials and function. In addition, heritage crafts, unconventional materials, sculptural tailoring, bold colours, fanciful details and artful prints speak our story. Our commitment is to make responsibly through sustainable practices.

“The influence of our native country, which can be felt through our collections, is grounded in tradition and timeless eccentricities, yet fearlessly modern.”
– NEISHAA GHARAT

“There is no beauty in the finest cloth if it makes hunger and unhappiness.”
– MAHATMA GANDHI
Loved and Enduring
The objects that we choose to surround ourselves with, tend to be those with the strongest and deepest connections to our past, present, and future. In addition, they may embody fond memories or represent special people, but cherished things also reveal what we value—beauty, utility, knowledge, craft—and when assembled can function as a portrait in time.
Design
Design is one of the most powerful forces in our lives.
It is a superpower and with it, we can change the world.
Therefore, we believe that social and environmental issues go hand in hand and through exploring the connection between these issues we may find innovative design solutions to sustainability.

Complete the sentence “The future of fashion is, sustainable and technological. We can already see a shift within the fashion industry towards a more sustainable future. Because of the huge pressure from mainstream media accounts fashion brands have in some ways have had to adapt to what the masses want, and that is more sustainable fashion. Technology has also made its imprint on the fashion industry, just look at how New York Fashion Week has had to adapt due to the pandemic, they have had to use technology as an alternative to in-person showings. And in terms of clothing, you can look at Zendaya’s dress from the 2019 Met Gala, where lights were stitched into the lignin of the dress. I do believe that technology will have a more and more important in the fashion industry, from clothing to distributing.
Complete the sentence “The future of retail is, digital. We are already living in a world where almost every industry has become digitalized and fashion is an industry that is benefiting from digital platforms.
Complete the sentence “Style from my point of view means art. In the same way, as we call to dance and paintings art so is style. A style is an art form, where you can express and represent yourself. Your style can say everything about you and at the same time nothing, it is ever-evolving self-expression.

– I have good knowledge of WordPress.
– I have basic skills in photoshop and adobe final cut pro.
What are your other areas of interest, not necessarily related to your work?
I love movies and film. It is something that has always interested me because there are so many aspects of it that are not shown and there is so much that goes into making it that you would never think off. From the colour scheme for characters to the music chosen, it is so fascinating to me. Also, sports. I am a huge sports fan.
How do you describe your ability to organise and project manage the project you work on?
I am a very organised person. I like to organise the tasks given in a timetabled way so that when the deadline is up everything will be done. With that, I mean that I like to break up the task and give them their deadline, and then move on to the next one. I am the same with project managing but it depends if I work in a team or not. By myself, I will do it how I am used to doing with the way described above, but in a team, the tasks will be delegated between the group and trusting that people do what they are supposed to do. But in a group, I think it is also important to give a task a deadline so that when everything is supposed to be put together everything will be delivered and in the best shape possible.
Are you self-motivated?
Motivation is something I have had since a very young age as I have always been part of a sports team. With sports often it is you that has to motivate yourself to get to training or the gym, so therefor motivating myself has been a part of my daily routine for a long time.

The internship period can be long or short, for me it is more about gaining experience within the industry, so in other words, I am very flexible when it comes to the time period of the internship.
If selected, I can join as soon as possible.

1. The future of fashion is going in the direction of sustainability for fears of the state of the world. The impact that the fashion industry has left on the environment is astronomical and has to be worked on, we are now in a time of accountability, awareness and protest so brands are becoming more tactical with the way they produce and promote. I also know that brands are becoming more inclusive with gender, race and lifestyle which will invite a wide range of customers and increase brand loyalty. The future of fashion is personal and meaningful because of consumers’ need to relate to their purchases, brands will do well to stay true to their values.
2. The future of retail is going in the direction of providing a meaningful experience virtually and in-person. Brands will have to continue to understand consumer needs and become flexible to provide them during and post-quarantine. Online sales are boosting due to restrictions in stores so it is important that brands find the best way to communicate with consumers to keep them interested.
3. Style from my point of view is an expression of one’s self. Style is about personality, identity and what makes someone feel good each day or night. I feel that people to try and fit into one tribe but you can also be apart of several if it suits you.

The future of fashion is sustainable and accessible to all. With up-cycling becoming more and more popular in the high end fashion industry, and cutting down the amount of season drops, fashion is slowly becoming better for the environment. I read an article about Alexander Mcqueen’s S/S 2020 show which up cycled designs from a collection from two years ago which I think is an inspiring start to a whole new wave of fashion.
The future of retail is digital based for convince. I also hope that its future is to be more slower than the many extreme fast fashion stores on the typical high street of retail stores which means more sustainable for our planet. I believe that the future of retail will adapt to our changing world and the challenges we face.
Style from my point of view means the way that you can express yourself confidently. Changing your style can completely change the way that you show yourself to the world. Style shows your individuality and interpretation on fashion trends.

The future of fashion is the adoption of slow consumption and conscious consumption. Fashion needs to become more thoughtful, with the design timeless with quality construction, built to last and to be admired. I believe that the future of fashion needs to adopt a careful consideration of good design, building back up relationships with garments that are not damaging and destructive.
The future of retail is the development in online marketing and promotion. Adopting to the ever changing online e-commerce systems of business, as there is a rapid steady incline in online purchasing due to the availability, ease and pace of this processes compared to a more traditional retail method.
Style from my point of view means an expression of a certain appeal and what message you want to communicate – something that is very personal and develops and changes overtime. Being aware of your particular style can be powerful as sets a direction and focus into what you choose to engage and invest in.
Konstantinos Toulgaridis

I personally think that:
– The future of fashion right now has a lot to do with accessories, especially now that we foresee a crisis due to covid. Accessories add to an outfit and scarves are becoming more and more important to the consumer, also because it’s a fun way to stay chic. Fashion is one of the most damaging industries along with the meat/dairy and oil industry and sustainability is very important and brands that are transparent with how they source their materials and show the process of how they make things are very important.
– The future of retail is going to suffer in the physical way, I think that boutique stores and such will close or won’t have many visitors (even though I think it’s necessary especially with luxury goods, to check the quality of materials.) so it’s important to have an eye-catching social media page and advertising for the brand.
– Style from my point of view is something that should be very personal and built up on some basics. It’s good to have basic items and ”dress” them up with other items. Being stylish is more of a feeling just like how i feel no one can dress feminine or masculine but more of they feel masculine or feminine in that outfit since everyones perspective of style is. different.

The future of fashion is creating new models from the roots of old fashion and Technology will make huge impact on fashion.
The future of retail is completely moving to online sales and AR based virtual Trials.
Style from my point of view means a way of expressing yourself; feeling beautiful on the outside as well as the inside.

I am fascinated by cultural contrasts, and how people are made up of a combined repertoire of experiences, beliefs, and habits. Each person is a unique result of the facts of his/her life sequence, and that delights me.
I found my life purpose when I started looking for ways to really translate and exalt these infinite differences (using arts, textiles and style).
Even from so far (from Brazil !!!!), ), I have found that I am on the right track, that there are people out there in the world that are making this common purpose real (in beautiful ways, as the House of Gharats does).
“The objects that we choose to surround ourselves with, tend to be those with the strongest and deepest connections to our past, present, and future. ”
That, for me, is the real purpose of fashion.

I feel that the future of fashion is uncertain in terms of what it could look like. Fashion is always new and exciting, it’s ever changing and will have new and ongoing influences as time goes on. The future of fashion will in my eyes, be more sustainable with an increased level of awareness growing among consumers and it will probably become a lot more eco friendly within it’s methods of production.
The future of retail is most likely going to become a lot more virtual and will be based a lot more digitally, which will open up an enormous amount of opportunity and will enable brands to interact and reach out to customers that they perhaps hadn’t been able to before. I think the future of retail is exciting and customer experiences and accessibility will become increasingly important, as they already are a top priority.
Style from my point of view means a particular way that something normally looks or a particular way that something is done. I think the style of an individual is unique to them and allows them to express their personality, be that through the way they dress or through the things they do. Style, makes people feel great and confident and is an ongoing factor in the fashion industry, even as trends change. Fashion trends will change and can be followed by many individuals but style is unique to an individual and is there permanently.

The future of fashion is us, we designers are the future of fashion. Our ethical practices, sustainable measures towards conscious designing.
The future of retail is the technology and the numerous methods in which the brand is available to the consumers.
Style from my point of view means a way to express myself that is not only fancy but also in which I’m comfortable.
Dee Jobanputra
The future of fashion is through sustainability. Without a sustainable future, the future of the fashion industry may not even exist.
The future of retail is personalisation. With everyone in our society aiming to be ‘different’ and ‘unique’ these days, I believe that the retail industry needs to offer personalised products to clients.
Style from my point of view means self-expression. A style is an art form created by humans that cannot be created by computers. Even if we have to live with one piece of cloth towards the collapse of the Earth, I believe that humans will make an effort with that piece of cloth to express their views and style.

The future of fashion is sustainability. But in order to achieve this fully, factors such as clothing longevity will play a massive role in this. It relies on the consumers playing an active role in helping the environment and the carbon footprint. For example, rather than purchasing fast fashion items that some may wear for up to a year, buying quality garments containing sustainable natural fibres could potentially increase sustainability. In addition to this, in the long run, consumers will spend less money on garments due to the quality of their garments.
The future of retail is digitalising where we buy our garments from. Social media and online shops make it easier for people to buy clothes as they can guarantee their size and fresh stock. However, it does mean that retail is becoming more objective, as when you physically enter shops it is more of an emotional experience; you touch the fabric, you place the garment on yourself and some may even smell it. So online shopping is definitely the turning point for retail.
Style from my point of view relies on three main concepts; composition, colour and individualism. Our individualism can be influenced by popular culture and the media but all of us wear clothes that express a certain notion or how we want people to perceive us. Composition and colour go hand in hand for example wearing blocks of colour, or no colour at all, whether some prefer garments that cover all of their body or little of it. It is all about personal identity and the confidence that you simultaneously bring will make a difference.

1) The future of fashion is sustainability. As our climate changes, sustainability becomes a key factor within the fashion industry. Furthermore, people are becoming less incline to buy fast fashion as the industry is evolving. News of fast fashion retailers misconduct and the impact it has on the environment is becoming more apparent, therefore people are more willing to purchase products for a higher price as they are aware of the supply chain and the history of what they are buying.
2) The future of retail is online. Especially during these unprecedented times, shoppers are going online more than ever. To fully immerse yourself to the online shopping experience.
3)Style from my point of view is a unique form of expression. Fashion and style is personal to the wearer, you can transform or express ones personality and attitude depending on what they are wearing. It is a form of confidence. In part, for some it is a form of following trends as well, however, by adding your own personal touch to a garment, truly makes it exclusive as one garment will look different from one person to the next.
Chiara Podini
“ The future of fashion is…commitment, social activism and passion, I want fashion to restore “times” that are healthy for the sector itself, which should have a forward-looking vision for the creation of iconic and timeless garments.”
“ The future of retail is…is oriented towards a world that wants everything and immediately, without sacrificing quality. I believe that investing in e-commerce can bring a huge benefit to both parties.”
“ Style from my point of view means…means to be at ease. To create one’s own style means to be aware and confident of oneself and to communicate this thing outside”
Elodie Glikson
The future of fashion is challenging. Fashion is a form of art that we wear everyday and therefore reveal some parts of our identities. Because fashion is everywhere, it can be inspiring in terms of conveying ideas and commitments especially when talking about sustainability and human rights. We are now aware of the fact we need to change our production system to protect the environment and fashion has to be a part of the change. It could mean that future of fashion is also reconnecting with smaller scales and expressing various artistic and cultural visions to offer an alternative to this globalized same model spreading the same clothes all over the planet.
The future of retail is a conversation with customers. For a better system, retail shouldn’t be about selling to customers products they do not need but questioning the real customers’ needs and then trying to find the best options for them.
Style from my point of view means sharing in an exterior way a part of who you are. I don’t believe in good or bad style, I think style and the clothes we choose are about what do we want to show our to hide from other people or to ourselves. In that way style is probably being in harmony with what you are or aspire to be.
