Loved and Enduring

The objects that we choose to surround ourselves with, tend to be those with the strongest and deepest connections to our past, present, and future. In addition, they may embody fond memories or represent special people, but cherished things also reveal what we value—beauty, utility, knowledge, craft—and when assembled can function as a portrait in time.

Design

Design is one of the most powerful forces in our lives.
It is a superpower and with it, we can change the world.
Therefore, we believe that social and environmental issues go hand in hand and through exploring the connection between these issues we may find innovative design solutions to sustainability.

The future of fashion lies in sustainability. The early 2000s saw a rise in fast fashion and a pressure to remain trendy and this has been exacerbated by the rise of social media and influencer culture. The onset of the coronavirus pandemic, coupled with the recession, has caused a rise in awareness of the environmental impact of these fast fashion choices, causing a rise in sustainable fashion choices and a rise in the number of consumers looking to sustainable fashion companies. The rise of scandals involving larger corporations refusing to pay their labour forces during the pandemic is also causing a rise in pressure for fashion companies to engage in more ethical practices.

Retail distributors are going to have a larger focus on online channels as opposed to in-store. They are going to dedicate more resources to creating a stronger online presence and becoming more visible on social media influencers.

Style from my point of view means a highly accessible form of creativity and self-expression. Every outfit one wears, whether consciously or unconsciously, reflects their purpose, mood and background – making fashion the purest and most common form of self-expression.

The future of retail is sustainability in distribution.

Style from my point of view means going against the grain and not conforming to boring trends, and choosing garments which not only make you feel great, but also have a positive impact on the world.

Complete the sentence “ The future of fashion is…
…rethinking the whole production and purpose of the fashion fabrics. Like making clothes production less polluting, for example using UV printing instead of printing with chemical dyes that pollute our rivers. Even digital printing is not great due to its printing surfaces, which usually are newly produced blank canvasses of polyester or cotton based fabrics, where neither are not that great for the planet for different reasons. With UV you can print on any surface and here could come into play the use of so called new future materials. Using UV you could print on top of an already existing cloth with faded print and re-use the fabric again. And not mass produce tonnes and tonnes of new fabrics. The quality of the image is not any worse than a normal digital printed fabric.

…largely unknown in my opinion, due to a shift in customers habits and demand for certain products. It is like we are in some kind of transient phase, where future is still unfolding.
I would like to believe that the future of the retail is to encourage people to buy locally and discourage the mass production of cheap clothing. But capitalist systems are very firmly set on profit mentality and cultural change is needed before anything is going to change.

Complete the sentence “ Style from my point of view means…
…an individual attempt of self expression through fashion, speech or other outer visual forms of communication with our body or within our immediate environment.
I believe style is something that should be encouraged and the sense of it developed. And the more culturally or personally different a style of an individual/place is, the more interesting and diverse our communities will be.

The future of fashion is sustainability in a number of different ways. Waste levels must be reduced and so must the carbon footprint involved in globalised supply chains. Equally, workers at all ends of production must have adequate working conditions. Fundamentally though the future of fashion is in buying quality not quantity in order to achieve this.
The future of retail is online and will be reliant on technology. The pandemic has only served to intensify this. As a result, campaigns will be even more important and they must be visually captivating to stand out from the vast number of images we see online.
Style from my point of view is wearing something that you feel totally comfortable in and which stands out.

The future of fashion is us. We are the next generation of designers, displaying our own stories within the produced goods. The fashion evolves every single day and we will be the ones to underline its magic.

The future of retail is in good hands. Having the chance to explore this field and base our observations on experiences of past generations, we are now much more aware of what influences the retail and sales.

Style from my point of view means the way we are. Style is not clothes we wear, but a way of being, feeling, acting around others. Style never changes, despite new trends in fashion.

What is the future of fashion?

For me, fashion needs to fit around the future that we have inflicted upon ourselves.

Personalisation; the things we have heard before- repairing, customising, tailoring your wardrobe to create pieces that you love to wear, rewear, and keep for a long time. But also research into; is this company/design a good representation of my beliefs?

Making it inclusive; people size 16+ always seem like an afterthought, left with specialised companies or the limited amount of fast fashion companies that have adopted a plus size range. More sustainable ways of purchasing clothes such as charity shops, and small businesses terribly lack plus size options, let alone fashionable, beautiful items that everybody should have access to!

Normalising supporting local businesses, small artists and designers. This is definitely something that has increased in popularity during the coronavirus period, with the increase in community feeling. This is great as we can continue to foster creativity in our surrounding environments.

Mindfulness; asking yourself questions before buying. Also deepening your research from the initial primal feeling of wanting, consuming. Looking at the producer, the materials, the conditions in which these items are made, and questioning whether you are content with this. This could also be applied when editing you wardrobe as well; things such as the 30 wear challenge on Instagram have been particularly thought provoking for me.

What is the future of retail?

Shopping has definitely become something mindless, something purely visual and driven by our need to consume. Retail; the selling of clothes, now needs to learn evolve to be more specialised to each customer’s values. An experience which allows the customer to understand the process behind the clothes, choose retailers and items with aligning morals, ethics, and values. Ideally the end result being you buying something with excitement, that you are proud to own, and something that you will cherish for a very long time.

What is style from your point of view

To me style is not exact, but like a perfect combination of colours, fit, and textures – so you put different complementing elements into this equation, and the results can differ.

Style, at the same time, is extremely personal and subjective – basically the same as art – which is definitely a good description for it; it is your own personal art.

The future of fashion is endless, there are so many possibilities to be unlocked and it is brands like the House of Gharats that can spearhead that. Fashion is ever evolving and the future of fashion is what we make it. I hope that the future of fashion is more sustainable and more accepting of the variety that exists in this world in the form of culture, race and love.

The future of retail is streamlines. E Commerce is the new black with most places favouring online real estate. The future lies in social media and the story of the brand that draws us in and makes us want to buy from someone we feel like we know. The future of retail is bigger than ever but still small and personal at the same time.

Style from my point of view means not being afraid to be who you are. Some follow trends and some set them and those who set the trends are the definition of style. Style to me means being fearless, knowing that what you are wearing is more than wearing an article of clothing, it is embodying yourself and the creativity we all have within us.

“ The future of fashion is…Slow. It is about smaller collections and one off pieces that support small designers over large corporations, with less of a focus on trends and more focus on personal taste.

“ The future of retail is…Made to order.

“ Style from my point of view means…How you present yourself, both visually and morally. Style is how you conduct yourself, it is about the choices you make and the actions you take.

    1. The future of fashion is sustainable and open-minded. Nowadays we are facing tough times especially environmentally speaking. Fashion should make use of sustainable materials or reuse something that already exists in order to create new products with a traditional touch.
When I say open-minded I mean that fashion should enable people to express who they are without judgments.

    2. The future of retail is focused on respecting people who work in this field and customers. In a digital era where everyone can check and buy products using the Internet, we should not forget that we are human beings. It is extremely important to best meet customers’ needs and to do so it is essential an excellent customer service that requires attention; attention to detail, attention to customers. When we all go and buy clothes or other products we all want to be properly received and advised.
Due to this unprecedent situation created by the pandemic Covid-19 people are not able to try clothes. Personally, I think that this is leading part of the retail to disappear.

    3. Style from my point of view means expressing yourselves using an elegant, extravagant combination that drives you to feel confident and transfer this feeling to other people.

The future of fashion is chic sustainability and a reduction in the amount of fast fashion waste.
The future of retail is upcycling the old into new and loved items. I was once watching a sewing show which stated “there is enough clothes in the world to dress the next 6 generations” upcycling is the way forward.
Style from my point of view is unique to each person, I love how easily you can switch up looks to represent your mood, feelings and surroundings.
