An Artful Life
House Of Gharats is a design house creating conscious luxury for artful dressing and living. The old and new play off one another in perfect harmony. There is an undeniable appreciation for tradition and the antiquated, but also so much creative progression – and a love for beauty.
Founders
Neishaa & Pretam Gharat, founders of House of Gharats, endeavour to bring together various cultures, redefine cultural relationships, and create new style synergies through art and fashion. Living amidst London’s international hybrid city of cultures and its influential past results in objects that are profoundly modern, distinctively stylish, yet inherently classic.
Culture Of Craft
We are passionate about heritage arts and crafts, engaging with the makers and the process. Therefore our designs draw on the essence of tradition, cultural juxtapositions, stories, materials and function. In addition, heritage crafts, unconventional materials, sculptural tailoring, bold colours, fanciful details and artful prints speak our story. Our commitment is to make responsibly through sustainable practices.
“The influence of our native country, which can be felt through our collections, is grounded in tradition and timeless eccentricities, yet fearlessly modern.”
– NEISHAA GHARAT
“There is no beauty in the finest cloth if it makes hunger and unhappiness.”
– MAHATMA GANDHI
Loved and Enduring
The objects that we choose to surround ourselves with, tend to be those with the strongest and deepest connections to our past, present, and future. In addition, they may embody fond memories or represent special people, but cherished things also reveal what we value—beauty, utility, knowledge, craft—and when assembled can function as a portrait in time.
Design
Design is one of the most powerful forces in our lives.
It is a superpower and with it, we can change the world.
Therefore, we believe that social and environmental issues go hand in hand and through exploring the connection between these issues we may find innovative design solutions to sustainability.

The future of fashion is… Innovative. Fashion thrives on creativity, and as the world evolves, so must fashion. I believe this is evident through development of new textiles, technologies and approaches to waste reduction which are inspiring positive change without sacrificing artistic flair and expression.
The future of retail is… Experiential. With such a dynamic marketplace, the advance of e-commerce, and ever increasing competition, I believe retail must constantly create ways to interact with consumers and be aware of their needs and desires while providing new and exciting experiences such as creative displays, pop-ups and events and collaborative opportunities.
Style from my point of view means… Narrative. In my opinion, style is an expression of the self, both at a certain point and within greater context of the life course. Style tells a personal story and captivates one’s identity.

The future of fashion is sustainability in fashion – since waste is a huge problem in the textile industry, many fashion brands are exploring new ways of eco-friendly production.
The future of retail is shopping circularity – emergence of charity shops and also online buy/sell platforms encourages consumers to be sustainable by buying second hand items which would reduce waste.
Style from my point of view means having confidence in your own personal identity visually.

“The future of fashion is…” sustainable. Everything sustainable has quickly become a trend with fashion brands following each other to establish sustainable collections. Sustainable shopping will become consistent and fast fashion will see a decline as globally fashion houses pick up on the change trending across the world for ‘sustainability’.
“The future of retail is…” uncertain. Retail stores will continue to see a decline and online shopping will see an increase. Brands will focus on advertising to increase traffic online and attention to customer experiences in-store will see a rise in ‘quality’.
“Style from my point of view is…”dependant on the individual. Fashion will always be important to each one of us whether realised or not; A mother who spends little on herself but needs that scarf for those cold mornings and buys one online because it looks warm, compared to the young girl who is instantly interested by the intricate thread on that same cashmere scarf, the style of the scarf although looked at differently by both has resulted in the same purpose satisfied.

1) The future of fashion is the collaboration of the old and new coming together to make something bigger. I believe the new ideas, styles and trends that have developed over the years have created a pathway of greater imagination and styles that we would pass down to the next generation. With technology developing and ideas flourishing, the future of fashion is a blank canvas that we have the opportunity to paint ourselves with various colours, imagery and textures.
2) The future of retail is the development of online marketing and connecting with society in every way possible. With the high demand of online shopping and browsing, retail has been very focused through social media and the internet and I believe the future of retail is browsing.
3) Style from my point of view is the way you express yourself from different clothing materials, colours and accessories. it is a sense of freedom of speech and getting to terms with who you are yourself.

The future of fashion is the sharing of its aims; sometime fashion can be seen as a work of art, something not accessible for everyone, but I think that in the future every person will be represented through fashion. Fashion will give a voice to everyone.
The future of retail is reinventing communication and contact with the producers and the craftsmen which has been lost in the last decade due to the increase of online shopping. Or at least, this is what I wish.
Style from my point of view means…to let our personality succeed, through space and time, during all the different periods of our life. Style is just another way that our personality and feelings use to express themselves.

The future of fashion is… producing items of clothing that are timeless, stylish and fun but also made ethically and sustainably from fabrics that are not harmful to people, animals or the planet in the whole design, production and manufacturing processes.

Style from my point of view means confidence.

The future of fashion is ethical consumerism. Environmental sustainability should be embedded within technological advances in fashion to ensure the reduction of waste and the increase in product life. A circular business model must be adopted by fashion designers and companies.
The future of retail is e-commerce and making purchasing easy for customers. Building brand loyalty without physical face to face interaction is something which will have to be developed. The ability to do this will mean higher demand and sales for the business in a shorter time frame; as online shopping is faster than going into stores.
Style from my point of view means testing your comfort zone. Experimenting and showing your individuality through your clothes and chosen accessories. The colours and materials chosen should be embraced and highlight your confidence.

The 3 main things that stood out to me are firstly, ‘Design is a superpower with which we can make a difference to our world’ this is one of my favourite quotes I’ve heard in a while just simply because of the huge effect design has towards everyone and everything and I find it entirely true. I love that all the designs have a story behind them there either traditional cultural, heritage designs made on unconventional materials with sculptural tailoring. This just interests me even more and more knowing how much care a detail goes into creating one of your beautiful pieces. There all loads more things that I could say about your company that I love however lastly I would like to say how Inspiring it is to read how sustainability plays a big role within your design process.
