An Artful Life
House Of Gharats is a design house creating conscious luxury for artful dressing and living. The old and new play off one another in perfect harmony. There is an undeniable appreciation for tradition and the antiquated, but also so much creative progression – and a love for beauty.
Founders
Neishaa & Pretam Gharat, founders of House of Gharats, endeavour to bring together various cultures, redefine cultural relationships, and create new style synergies through art and fashion. Living amidst London’s international hybrid city of cultures and its influential past results in objects that are profoundly modern, distinctively stylish, yet inherently classic.
Culture Of Craft
We are passionate about heritage arts and crafts, engaging with the makers and the process. Therefore our designs draw on the essence of tradition, cultural juxtapositions, stories, materials and function. In addition, heritage crafts, unconventional materials, sculptural tailoring, bold colours, fanciful details and artful prints speak our story. Our commitment is to make responsibly through sustainable practices.
“The influence of our native country, which can be felt through our collections, is grounded in tradition and timeless eccentricities, yet fearlessly modern.”
– NEISHAA GHARAT
“There is no beauty in the finest cloth if it makes hunger and unhappiness.”
– MAHATMA GANDHI
Loved and Enduring
The objects that we choose to surround ourselves with, tend to be those with the strongest and deepest connections to our past, present, and future. In addition, they may embody fond memories or represent special people, but cherished things also reveal what we value—beauty, utility, knowledge, craft—and when assembled can function as a portrait in time.
Design
Design is one of the most powerful forces in our lives.
It is a superpower and with it, we can change the world.
Therefore, we believe that social and environmental issues go hand in hand and through exploring the connection between these issues we may find innovative design solutions to sustainability.

1. The future of fashion is sustainability and particularly to understand the impact of the industry on the environment and find ways to remediate this.
2. The future of retail is going to be turned upside down in a way that stores will have to be rethought in more ethical and ecological ways.
3. Style from my point of view means something different for everyone. For me, it is a way to express oneself without having to say a word.

The wonderful thing about House of Gharats is the motto itself, “one scarf at a time”, no change can be brought forward without vision and commitment.
The 3 things I like on House of Gharats:
a. my personal favorite project is The sea change scarf collection, socially responsible design emphasizing one of the biggest catastrophes in our world today. Respect for life is also respect for beauty, we do not need to make beautiful things at the cost of nature. Beauty with substance is invaluable.
b. Rehabilitation of Indian handloom fabrics along with traditional motifs from Pichwai, Kalighat Ghoda and Patachitra motifs in a whimsical manner that has an effervescent appeal. It reminds me of the old vintage India in a modern manner.
c. Passion for climate change and the importance of sustainability especially towards the overuse of plastic, spreading awareness without any compromise on the aesthetics. The whimsical and natural use of colors which reminds me of the colors of Gujarat, Rajasthan, and Bengal.
d. The future of fashion is a circular design economy, socially responsible design with a process that gives back as much as it takes.
e. The future of retail is restructured infrastructure, truly incorporating reuse and recycle methods, change at the production level and ethical treatment of workers along with the resources.
f. Style from my point of view is subjective, comfort and self-confidence are what one feel should they make a purchase, a functional beauty.

The future of fashion is engagement, I sincerely believe that what will make the difference between one brand and another is its commitment to its consumers and to the causes it defends. There has to be meaning in what we do. It’s no longer enough to create a collection, it has to mean something to people.
Style from my point of view is a means that helps us to assert ourselves, to take responsibility for ourselves and to surpass ourselves. Clothes, is a carapace, which protects us but it represents who we really are, it reveals our character, our aspirations. It is a shell that we can customize as we wish, it is our means of expression.

The future of fashion is that sustainable and ethical fashion will be more important because people are starting to have awareness and start to worry about the future of our planet Consumers want fashion that represents more than an aesthetic means of self-expression. In the future, we will consume with sentimental and long-lasting value in mind. Fashion will therefore become more widely and deeply considered.
The future of retail will be mainly online and digitalised, meaning that stores will have to offer a more innovative and exciting experience to encourage the consumer to enter the store.
Retailers will provide an experience with the aid of technology, influenced by trends to satisfy consumers needs. Retailers will also focus on creating convenience, by making things easier and quick for them.
Style from my point of view means welcoming the colors, fabric, and fashion that brings you joy and confidence regardless of societal pressures to conform to a certain aesthetic. Style is deeply personal, timeless, and does not align with fast-fashion trends. Style is an extension of your identity. If you change, your style will too, because of that you should love your style because it shows who you are.

The future of fashion is innovating new processes and methods that avoids the depletion of natural/raw materials. Fashion should aim to be carbon neutral.
The future of retail is promoting elements of inclusivity of all people, that being in the marketing sector. Likewise, future retailing should provide more transparaency and tracebility in the production process, making consumers aware of where their money is going.
Style from my point of view is a symbolism of an individual, whether that being religion, culture or personality. Style should embody historical and contemporary references and should be comfortable and fitting to that specific person.

The future of fashion is investing in beautiful, timeless, meaningful pieces which are adaptable, versatile and last not only for our lifetime but that of our children and our children’s children.
The future of retail is circularity, creating high quality garments which can be sold, re-sold, up-cycled, borrowed and shared for generations.
Style from my point of view is self-expression, creativity and empowerment but style is also about showing your beliefs through the clothes you wear. Whether this is shopping second hand or only buying ethical and sustainable brands to protect the planet and the people creating the garments.
